Knitting a creche is a bit of an adventure. I began by collecting bits and pieces of yarn—rich tones for the wise men, found some white angora for Baby Jesus, rustic browns for the shepherds, etc. And then I collected little plastic, and sometimes glass bottles, for the supports beneath. One nice element about the project is that one doesn’t have to knit everything in at once, but perhaps the first year you’d knit Mary, Joseph and the babe, the second year add shepherds and sheep and the third the wise men. -
This adorable couple now remind me of our Ukraine friends, their braveness and courage. Wouldn’t it be nice if one were able to knit one to give to a refugee family? Janez sports a peasant shirt, buttoned vest, knickers and striped socks. Petruska wears a floral skirt, blouse, weskit, petticoat. All clothing is knitted onto the body.
